Club Photo.

As we never seem to have all students in the same place at the same time, I am going to take a photo each week from the same position with available students stood about a foot in front of the curtain, then use photoshop to merge the photos into one. similar to this one (below), but  with the curtain / floor lined up better and using the same camera each time, eventually we will get a photo with all members together.

Closing due to snow. 02/03/18

Those who have been out this morning can probably tell, the roads will be very dangerous tonight… ❄️☃️❄️☃️❄️

I’ve just seen the thickest slab of ice I’ve ever seen, so I’m going to cancel training tonight as most of you drive in and I’m not sure my trailer is up to the task either.

Such a shame as I was really looking forward to it with things picking up. See you all next week.

Grading Certification.

I am proud to announce our new Red Grade student, who has worked very hard meet the required grading standards. Congratulations to Jamie Hansford.

Jamie Red Grade Cut

The New System.

We have now streamlined our syllabus to make sure students are always working towards their next grade. Before this we were following a staggered cycle up to Blue Grade. This meant that students were occasionally working on skills that were above their grade level. Which meant it was taken longer to reach the next grade, but also that students have to retain more skills than necessary for their skill level.

This new system is working great, with higher grade students assisting in working with lower grade lessons, I can now work my way round to everyone in a much more effective way. All students get regular practice of previous, lower grade skills as well as learning skills at their own level too. So I am very happy with it.

During the next few months while we synchronise to the new system, we may have already done  certain lessons in the schedule, so we will skip them and move on to the next in the sequence, this means that occasionally, lessons may appear to come round quicker in the cycle and students at that grade level can communicate amongst themselves and with me to decide what we want to work on, although all 6 runs through (learning, reflex development, revision, combat simulation, grading preparation and grading) each lesson will eventually be achieved anyway.

Head Guards.

Along with gloves, mouth and shin guards, for those who want to take sparring to a higher level, head guards will be a must.

the RDX T1 looks very nice:

Future Lessons.

As of today, we will be trying a different format for lessons, the lesson track will stay the same for everyone, but we will be attempting to tailor lessons for students as per their grade. for example; all red grades will work in a group towards yellow grade, by completing lessons on their track. Higher grade students will help a pair of lower grade students get started with the first slice of a lesson and then return to their own lesson at the higher level, this will enable me to run multiple lessons within 1 class, moving around between grade groups.

The floor plan image below shows how this will work.

Table of contents.

  • Safe Training.

  • Tuesday Lesson (30/01/18).

  • Friday’s Lesson (02/02/18).

Safe Training.

All students need to think about training safely.

GUM SHIELDS

Gum shields are essential to prevent tooth damage from light sparring upwards, so if you want to take sparring seriously make sure you get one soon, RDX do brilliant ones but there are many alternatives on eBay, Tapout, Shock Doctor and SafeJawz are all good brands.

SHIN GUARDS

If students want to kick safely, Shin Guards are essential, not only to protect the person being kicked, but also provide protection for the feet and ankles when kicking. RDX do brilliant Neoprene Shin Guards that tick all the boxes, locking in heat to the lower leg to improve circulation and prevent cramps during training.
